a little bird told me...

so, look what i finished today! as some of you may have heard me say, i made an adorable little paper mache bird in my 3d design class. but, i felt like she looked a little lonely, and not very colorful... and then today, i realized what she needed... a base! so i grabbed some wire, glass beads, and a couple of buttons, and twisted them around a block of wood that i painted a light shade of brown, and now, she is complete and ready for next week's critique!

p.s. she looks better from the other angle, but, oh well. im too lazy to take another pic.. :)

words of the week {3}

p.s. i am loving this! are you? because i dont want to bore.

just call it a random tuesday...

so, i honestly have no idea how i did this so quickly, and i wasnt trying to go fast at all... but. in less than thirty minutes i made this collage in my journal... haha. oh my...

i was inspired when i read this ad that i ripped out of a magazine. and ironically, if you read it, it ends with "just call it a random tuesday"...

also, i dont know if you can read this note, but it says
"so aparently i hold my pencil wrong... :) "
thats what i was told earlier. because the {right} way is to hold it with the "traditional tripod grip" but i rest my pencil on my ring finger... well, its nice to know that im different. :)

happy tuesday everyone!

a good day

so. here are some little day-makers for my tuesday:

1. this adorable bowl that elsbeth gave me. i put all of my makeup stuff in it and it looks perfect on my dresser! thanks els!

2. this candle! {thanks els} i love candles and this one looks and smells amazing!

3. this DRIVERS LICENCE!!!! yep, thats right friends, i can drive. so you may want to stay off the roads ;) no... im good. :) :)

i'll post some inspiration later today, but now i gotta run to the grocery store... back soon.

today was not an easy day for most. a lot of goodbyes. olivia left today, and roberto and rachel will be leaving this week...and, it is not at all easy to see them go,because they have woven themselves into our lives. but, they have to go. brasil is earnestly calling their name, and roberto and rachel are meant to touch hearts in brasil. i am fully convinced that everything happens for a reason. nothing happens that shouldnt, and nothing doesnt happen that should. so. rachel and roberto and olivia. i wish you all the best of luck, and i am and will be praying for all of you.

this song has really resinated with me today...because it makes me feel like everything is under control, even when it seems like the world is upside down.

friday thought.

photoshoot.

jenna's very first photoshoot...we had fun, although, my camera isn't one for fancy photoshoot stuff, but, we did what we could. i tried painting her face, but, it didn't really work out how i wanted... haha. but, i really love the ones i took of jenna with the pearl necklace! :) good friday!

lesson number one

okay, so i know i said her name was amber, but. i feel like i named her before i got to know her, and when i was playing with her today, i called to her. but "amber" didn't come out of my mouth, "sadie" did... does this mean she needs to be renamed? did she tell me that telepathically somehow? ...hmmm... i think yes.
oh my little sadie...is there any hope for you? ...she doesnt know how to play frisbee or know the meanings of "go get it" or "dont jump"...so i tried to work with her when i got home. but pretty much all that was accomplished was that she is now addicted to go-gurts, and i have yet another pair of dirty fur-covered jeans in my laundry. but we had fun together. :)

i think my cats are getting a little confused... mister troublemaker was digging in the dog bones when i came in today... my house is turning into noah's ark of saved animals... my dad jokes and says "we must have a big neon sign above our house that says "SUCKERS"...." no, we just have big hearts. :)

speaking of my dad, he's coming home tonight! :)

one hundred

well well well! this is my one hundredth post! i have changed so much since that first post, and evolved into a much better blogger too! so, lets see where the next 100 take me! :)

one last note...

my last christmas thank you note is complete! i love making cards...

words of the week {2}

maybe he just likes yellow.

van gogh. i have a special place in my heart for him. i dont know why, but his starry starry night and sunflowers captivate me so...

i think it may be because i love the combination of yellow and blue...and he had a thing about balancing those two colors.

many try to give all these explanations for why he loved yellow so much, blaming it on disease or eye disfunctions. but id like to suggest that maybe he liked the color because of what yellow is symbolic of; enlightenment, hope, joy. maybe painting a sky yellow displayed his search for truth.

brian king shared that some critcs believe that the yellow represents van gogh trying to find reality and reaching out for truth and god. In the rise of lazarus, he puts his own face on that of lazarus. perhaps this is his realization that he needs a fresh start.

who knows what van gogh was thinking when he chose his pallate. maybe he just liked yellow...

wednesday....

wednesday. seek. stephen had a little too much fun with rubber gloves and it scared me just a little bit. just like [-----] that much.... haha. i love the way he wrapped the rafters in christmas lights. i honestly stand there and just stare at them the whole time. totally worth the hours and hours of work. :)

i think one of my favorite parts of wednesdays is the drive home. colin just blasts the music and we zoom all the way home, immersing ourselves into the music. be it coheed and cambria or john mayer or regina. and i can just relax and think.... i think more deeply and cohesively in his car than anywhere else....because. well. i couldnt tell you...

stuck in my head...

i honestly love this song, and im glad that it's been stuck in my head recently:

{there is a light that never goes out:the smiths}

Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
And they're young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
Anymore

Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it's not my home, it's their
Home, and I'm welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine ...

tuesday. almost over.

i had a long afternoon of crafting and my creative juices
are long gone, unfortunately... but i got a lot done so its okay. first little project- i covered my new journal! and gave it a title. i used mod podge, and later on this evening i spilled a cup of water and the glue started to turn back into liquid form and i was totally frieking out, but my journal survived. oh my...at least now i know that my journal is not water friendly... :)
then, i had to do my crafts journal because it is due tomorow. it took me a solid three hours. and im starting to worry that all of my pages just look, well kinda the same. i dont know...
i used pages from a discarded biography of harry truman {boring} to collage the front and back cover, and added in a couple of different prints to add color and pattern. i think it came out nicely yes?

and this is just a random doodle i did in ap history. {sorry mr. moore} this song was just stuck in my head. actually, it's been in my head quite often recently...

my monday.

yesterday was monday. and i had a nice little night. bible study at devin and stephens was quite enjoyable. kelly helped me work on my blog, and i took a lot of random pictures. :) and then us girls gathered in devins room to watch the bachelor.... simple. relaxing. fun. perfect monday.

on a sunday...

what a glorious day it has been! i woke up so amazingly joyful this morning, and it was great! after church my small group all packed ourselves up and stopped by the carytown kroger, then over to Gabe's apartment. we {as in heather and annemarie and rachel} cooked bruchetta and
sundried tomato rice. so good! and fresh and filling! i am in love with gabes house. she lives across the street from the virginia museum of fine art. and her and her roommates have done an amazing job decorating. i had a wonderful time hanging out with all my blogging buddies and drinking tea and talking about the past couple of weeks...just a wonderful afternoon!

kelly, ellory, lorraine and i played around on the stairs and took pictures! we so crazy...

here are some other lovely pics from the afternoon:

and then i came home, and had a little treat! more tea, and a piece of lemon cake {thankyou jen} soon after, i drove over to the mall and got some new pants and a cute little flannel shirt! so today has just been full of little joys! and... i have good news! all of the animal shelters in the area are full! so guess who gets to stick around!?!? yep! amber dear is gonna be here for a while! :) i knew it!
